In this monthly update, Seth Miller, IPF’s Executive Director, provides an update on the Florida Innocence Commission’s work on witness identification procedures and recording interrogations to prevent future wrongful convictions. Florida DNA exoneree William Michael Dillon releases his first full-length CD, Black Robes and Lawyers, on September 27th. Seth also announces IPF’s first celebration gala, Steppin’ Out with the Innocence Project of Florida. It is scheduled for April 26, 2012, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Miami. This gala event will honor some of the early pioneers of Florida’s innocence movement and commemorate the inspiring journeys of Florida’s 13 DNA exonerees.

I am and I am sure those who you’ve cleared of charges they had not committed are greatful for your service, as I am sure society as a whole is.

However, this is alot deeper than ppl on death row and such. Some ppl are appointed public defenders that feel that thier primary duty is to plea bargan. I have been a victim of such and wound up in the Florida state prison system for 2yrs. I was cited for “fleeing to elude” the police. and only because I took the time to phone the sheriff’s office first so that I could be sure that when I did pull over I wasnt shot by and over sealous office. The police report states I maintained normal speed. The statute say I would have to be attempting to get away. I have police reports, the 911 audio and I had a public defender who was only interested in getting the case over with so that he could collect his measly $750.00. Like said many are greatful for your service. But thousands are being sent to prison, daily, for not committing a crime. The plea barganing system is just a way to bully ppl into saying they did it, even when they hadn’t. I am still engaging in post conviction relief.

    Good Day. John Amditis
