Sarasota January 2012
In January of 2012 IPF was invited to speak at the Selby Library and Plymouth Harbor retirement home in Sarasota. Harriet Hendel, a volunteer and long-time friend of IPF, organized the Selby event, which had over 100 people in attendance. Seth Miller, IPF’s Executive Director, spoke about the causes of wrongful convictions, and James Bain shared his story of 35 years in prison and rebuilding his life after his exoneration. The guests at the Selby Library were very engaged in the presentation and several have invited IPF back to Sarasota.
Later in the evening Seth spoke about causes of wrongful convictions at Plymouth Harbor. He was accompanied by Derrick Williams, the most recent Florida exoneree. This was Derrick’s first speaking engagement since his exoneration in April of 2011 after serving 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
